Whalehead co-authors WHOI story about climate change

5 July 2010

HEALDSBURG, Calif. - Climate change is more of a threat than ever before, at least according to research revealed in a new article co-authored by Matt Villano the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

The piece, titled "Science in Service to the Nation," appeared on the Web site of the organization's Oceanus magazine today.

The story ran in form of a lengthy Q&A with WHOI scientist Ray Schmitt, who contributed to a recent National Research Council report on climate change.

The report, America's Climate Choices, emphasized that the United States should act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and called for a new era of climate science that offers strategies for local, regional, national, and international decision-makers to limit and adapt to climate change.

Villano reported the story over the course of a few weeks this spring. It can be viewed by clicking here.

Villano is a regular contributor to WHOI's Oceanus magazine. Over the last few years, he has written about everything from killer whales in Norway to underwater archaeology in the Mediterranean. To read some of Villano's stories for other publications, click here.
