Villano returns to WSJ with 'Off Duty' roundup of travel apps
19 Nov. 2011
HEALDSBURG, Calif. - Matt Villano returned to the pages of The Wall Street Journal this weekend with a service-oriented roundup of travel apps that can help travelers plan their next trips.
The piece, titled, "With a Little Help From Your Friends," appeared in the weekend "Off Duty" section of today's paper.
In the story, Villano spotlighted a handful of apps that incorporate information from social networking Web sites (and, in some cases, GPS data) to provide real-time recommendations on where to go, what to do and who to hang out with when you're there.
Most of the apps create pre-qualified networks of contacts to provide travel information and suggestions. One executive interviewed for the piece refers to this process as "friendsourcing."
Among the apps mentioned in the story: Trippy, Tripl, Tripline, Wenzani, Jetpac, Gtrot and more.
Villano reported the article over the course of a few weeks earlier this month.
